Horses that Compete
Andalusian/Lusitano
The Andalusian horse is one of the great ancient breeds, and was praised as the finest horse of war by the Greeks and Romans in ancient times. It originated in the Iberian peninsula, which includes both Spain and Portugal. The name Andalusian is derived from the southern Spanish region of Andalucia, while Portugal calls these horses Lusitanos. Although the population of Andalusian horses in the United States is small compared to other breeds, it has a reputation, image and mystique that is enormous. Andalusians are known for their intelligent and kind dispositon, along with strength, natural collection and agility. Visit www.ialha.org to learn more.
